The process starts with gathering requirements , continues with research and then the products wireframes are made
Not all UX proceses are the same. The processes differ in accordance with the client, the product's complexity and needs.
Saying that - here are the basic milestones:

Grathering information and defining requirments
Research
Includes competetive analysis, creating personas (if needed), interviews and usabilty testing (can be done during different stages of the process)..
Wirefaming
Wireframing the screens and processes of the product.
There is also a posssiblity of creating an interactive prototype.
Usabilty Testing
Testing the product on real users.
The method can reveal a lot of problems at an early stage of the product.
Design
At this stage the product is ready for design
